Holly, Holly, Bo-Bolly

I just shot one of the most amazing brides yesterday! I met Miss Holly at the bridal show I participated in at the Endeavour Marina this past December and we instantly connected and I knew we would work well together. Well after 2 months of waiting we finally got our day and I had such a great time. Her mom and aunt tagged along with us. It's such a wonderful feeling you get when you're in the presence of truly genuine and happy people. They made me feel like family and I was sad when it was over. Holly & Justin's wedding isn't until April so the photos will have to remain in hiding until after.

Lots of luck and love to you Holly as you start your new life as a married woman! You, your mom and your aunt are TERRIFIC people. Thanks for the laughs and the WONDERFUL experience!!!

UPDATE: I got Holly's blessing to post her bridals on the site. Go to the Fairy Tale link to check 'em out!!!

This is something I am very passionate about....

Chances are you're probably in front of your computer, surfing the web, sitting in a semi-comfortable chair, drinking your third diet coke of the morning as the soft sound of your central a/c gently brushes the hair across the back of your neck. Or you're at work, a definite blessing in these trying economic times, sitting comfortably in your office, contributing to the family nest-egg as you count the minutes before you have to leave to pick-up your son or daughter from soccer practice. But what about those out there less fortunate than you or myself? What of the ones who don't have internet, a job or the security of a steady income? How often we take these common luxuries for granted. While we sit in our air conditioned home or office, someone is out there sleeping on a sidewalk in clothes they've worn for countless days, afraid to wake-up just to realize that the nightmare is only worse when they're awake.
Homelessness is a condition I've been sympathetic to all my life, but have always wondered, "How can I change anything, I'm just one person." Becoming a mother has opened my eyes to all the blessings I've been given. We live in our own little bubbles, buzzing around in our busy lives, oblivious to those suffering around us. It's okay! We're all busy. But while we're busy, there are people out there in need. In need of interaction with people who don't shun or judge them because of where they are in this world. Some people say they've made their choices in life and those choices got them to where they are. Others look at them as lazy or hopelessly addicted to drugs, simply unwilling to work to better their situations, content with their lives on the streets. If your life consisted of sleeping in urine filled warehouses, throwing away your pride to beg for money just to get a fresh meal, or sleeping in soiled clothes, wouldn't you want to escape your reality and drink too?! Most people didn't make the choice to be homeless. Who in their right mind would choose to live a life like that? Who are we, as people with a roof and four walls, to think we could possibly understand, let alone judge these people, without taking even a moment to acknowledge that they're even there.
In an effort to bring attention to the conditions of the homeless throughout Houston, I am organizing a clothing and necessities drive. Over the course of the remaining year, I plan to go out into Houston and meet these people in the hopes that, by doing so, I can bring some much needed attention and relief to Houston's homeless. Over the next few weeks, I will be collecting donations to help in what I feel is a truly worthwhile cause. My hope is to make their lives a little more comfortable, even if it just means they'll be sleeping on a blanket rather than the side of a refrigerator box. Through the process of getting to know them, I plan to use photography as a means of documenting not only the homeless and their conditions, but the faces of hope that even the smallest branch of generosity can generate. The purpose of this project goes beyond providing small comforts to their lives, but to use these photographs to spread awareness and remind people that the homeless population is still here. Regardless of how many fancy new buildings we put in downtown to "flush out the trash", these forgotten people are in dire need. Just like the newly graduated college student who interviews endlessly for that perfect job that requires experience, but the only way to gain experience is to get the job . . . someone has to take a chance and offer an opportunity!
I want this to be as convenient as possible, so if you can help in any way and wish to contribute, I will come to you to pick up your donations. This is a cause that has been on my heart for a while, I just needed the platform, means and opportunity to accomplish it. Together, we have a chance to do a really great thing for a lot of people. I hope that you can find time to sort through old clothes and other necessities to give to this cause. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for anything you can do.
Below is a list of items that we would LOVE to have: (When collecting donations, please keep in mind, homeless are men, women and children, so please help as many as you can)
- Short sleeved shirts or tank tops- Light weight pants - no shorts please. (They are often attacked by fire ants and the pants help to cover their legs, so again please no shorts)- Underwear - NEW ONLY please, for obvious reasons:0) this includes bras- Socks- Shoes- Children's clothes - shoes, socks, etc. all items are needed- Pillows- Blankets- Sleeping bags- Diapers/ Baby Wipes- Baby formula/bottles
Monetary donations will also be very appreciated, as I plan to use any money donated to provide meals to the people I meet.
We will do GREAT things with your love and generosity!
Love,Amber

Introducing Mr. Jett

Jay & Peri, the couple from the Corpus Christi marternity shoot, had their beautiful baby boy last month and I was fortunate enough to be the first to take his pictures. Well except for the one million or so photos his parents have taken of him at home no doubt. I set my house up as a mini studio and I'm so glad Peri remembered to bring the black and white comforter! It was just the touch I was looking for!! I had a great time visiting with these wonderful friends of mine and I can't wait to watch Jett grow up through my pictures. Andy and I miss and love y'all very much!

Finding Purpose

I have been shooting "professionally" for some pretty amazing people for almost a year now, but I've carried a camera with me for as long as I can remember. It wasn't until I used this tool to capture and freeze a moment in my children's lives that I realized exactly how powerful a tool it was. Memories, they're those things that with time disappear from our minds and become vague recollections of what we think our lives were. But it's the camera that has the power to sustain a memory long after you have forgotten what that moment in your life was, or forgotten it was even a moment at all. One of my absolute favorite quotes by someone unknown is "Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever...it remembers little things long after you have forgotten everything." A camera is powerful! For lack of a more profound word, I would say I am so blessed to be doing what I do. People put their trust in me to photograph them, and not just to take a picture but to give them something they will look at with great joy and smile when they remember that particular moment in their life and are brought right back to it as if it were happening all over again. What a gift to give! I really got heavy into photography when my husband had to work in Chicago for three months following the birth of our second child. I was a stay-at-home mom with a one month old and an eighteen month old who wanted to make sure her husband didn't miss a moment of our babies' lives. It was then that I started photographing our kids every day, several times a day, posting the pictures and written accounts of our goings on for him to see and be a part of. It was difficult to be away from him for so long, but it would have been more difficult for him had he been "left out of the loop" on what his children were doing while he was away. It was these moments, these powerful yet everyday memories that led me to where I am today. My husband says I gave him a tremendous gift with my daily pictures. It made being away from his family a little bit easier. It's truly amazing to know that my pictures did that :0) I knew that with his words of love and encouragement that the step into a professional area of photography was the next one for me to take. And here I am not even a year later enjoying a successful business built on loving people who believed in me and inspired me to push forward and pursue what I loved and what they felt was beautiful. To each and every person who took a chance and hired me in those early days I say thank you. You are the rock that I built my business upon and I couldn't think of a better bunch of people to be my foundation, not only in my business but in my life. I am stepping out into larger ventures, adding weddings to my list of services. I am eager to go out there and prove myself as someone who can thrive in this industry. I look forward to the launch of the new wedding site in May and to many more years of great success in both my life and my business.
Thank you for reading my thoughts. These are the most personal. This is where it started!

Love,
Amber

These two are my whole life and my whole purpose. And though I may get lost sometimes in this crazy-busy life I am living, I know I always have two beautiful little people who love me and look to me to be their shelter. Motherhood is a beautiful blessing. They are why I do what I do! End of story and I can't think of a better reason.

BEAUTIFUL family!

And to think the rain on Valentine's day almost ruined the memories we were about to create. I was blessed with the opportunity to meet one of the most adorable families I've ever had the pleasure of working with. And to make things ever more fun, their little man was such a character! I am so glad the rain slacked off long enough that I was able to catch a few candid moments as well as some great family shots!

Congrats to Ingrid, Robert and Squirt! You guys are amazing!

Baby J-Mak

Maternity sessions are some of my favorites to do! I especially love the ones where the daddy is willing to join in on the photo fun. This just happens to be my Advanced Sculpture professor and his adorable wife who were kind enough to put their trust in me and allowed me a great deal of creative freedom in creating their memories of their first born. I can't wait to take baby J-Mak's new born pictures :0)

Thanks for the great time guys!!!

Dyno-mite!

Lori is a cheerleader for our very own Houston Dynamo. The girl is also an amazing dancer. Her dance group was on Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew on MTV last year. I have never worked with someone who felt so comfortable or was as natural in front of the camera as she was! Thanks Lori for everything. I had such a great time getting to know you and taking your pictures.
And a special thanks to 713 Tattoo on Westheimer for letting us shoot inside the shop. You guys rock!

A Laid Back and Ooober Fun Bridal Shoot

I took bridal portraits today for one of my April weddings, and let me first say that working with this woman is such a delight. She's so laid back and eager to just go with whatever tickles my creative fancy. Of course I can't post any photos of her until after the wedding, but stay tuned....they will be up after April 18th.
